OPEN END
BACHELOR PROJECT PART 1
“Open End” was a project about loss and grief. In the western civilisation people are becoming less religious, therefore there is a need to make new rituals to say goodbye to our loved ones. Our assignment was to design a place for people recovering from grief. A place of reflection, a place to deal with the pain.
The assignment consisted of two sub-assignments. The first site was located in Maria-Aalter, Menas. The domain consists of a monastery and a big park where you can find peace and enjoy the nature.
The concept of my design for Maria-Aalter was to create a space for everyone regardless of their religious views. I decided to place my “neutral chapel” under the pond that was situated in the park. The space looks like a “bubble”. This as a result of my research about how people deal with loss. At a certain moment, most of the people prefer to be alone, go into their own bubble and reflect about their grief.
